Everything is a Freaking DNS problem - fon http://127.0.0.1:8080/blog/taxonomy/term/694/0 en Fedora 7 Wireless weirdness http://127.0.0.1:8080/blog/node/620
Since I first started using my Fonero I had some weird behavior with my Laptop's wireless card. Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network I could usually see 2 of my 3 wireless networks but not my MyPlace network. Sometimes I couldn't see any wireless network untill after a rmmod iwl3945 modprobe iwl3945 sequence.

Somewhere last weekend I was fed up with my slow booting laptop and decided it was time to clean up my bootorder and remove unused services that I had installed for test purposes only from it's boot procedure. One of the steps I took was removing the default enabling of my wlan0 interface.

The result was pretty astonishing, not only is my laptop booting much faster, but also whenever I now manually start NetworkManager it actually finds the MyPlace network and connects to it.

Yes I know I should upgrade to FC8 someday , and probably this is a known fact/fix but I never bothered to look further. Lazyness you know ;)
http://127.0.0.1:8080/blog/node/620#comments fc7 fon fonero iwl3945 Fri, 14 Mar 2008 18:41:32 +0000 Kris Buytaert 620 at http://127.0.0.1:8080/blog You guys need Fon http://127.0.0.1:8080/blog/node/546
Philip points us to The ethics of stealing a wifi . I too love the sprinkler anlogy.

However Ploum in the comments is right about being afraid of the morons that are proud to say that they used the open wifi of their neighbor to download movies and they took away all of the monthly 15Go limit in a few days !

Thats why you should use Fon. it gives you both bandwith limitation,
security, logging and other things. You get to see who has been using your AP , for how long, how frequent etc .. You can Limit the bandwith someone uses. etc. And because off course you choose to be a Linus, you get to surf on other peoples connections when roaming around.
What else would you be running on a Linksys ?
http://127.0.0.1:8080/blog/node/546#comments fon open secure wifi Fri, 04 Jan 2008 11:24:21 +0000 Kris Buytaert 546 at http://127.0.0.1:8080/blog
