Changing the title of my Blog

After what google announced today it's pretty clear who to blame as of now, no it's not Dim0 anymore,, it's not a Freaking DNS Problem anymore its just plain old google.

Yep Google announced they will be providing a public open DNS server . So rather than claiming that Everything is a Freaking DNS Problem, now everything is a Freaking Google Problem.

Google tracking which sites you visits while not using earch, it's a DNS Problem , Google tracking different Google Profiles you have and matching them together indeed, another Fine DNS Proble, Google tracking what different users are working the same computer and mapping them it's a DNS Problem,

Face it.. there is no need for a Porn mode in your browser anymore, google will be able to log every query you make .

And serve you adds cross profile ..

So the best DNS servers to use as of now are located at 127.0.0.1

Fun with Google Docs Urls

I`m not a big user of docs.google.com , but occasionally I use it sharing a public document to work on with friends or collegues.

So we have this spreadsheet we're sharing with some family and friends to swap Disney stickers. Google Docs has the option to publish that document publicly as html for others to view.

So I tried , and it generated me a very nice url

http://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key=rtlvf2-JSU1Pw-oPtuIZBPg&output=ht...

My sleepy eye catched the A1:C300 ending part .. which was generated by the friendly popup that asked me if I wanted to show all Sheets, or just a range of the page.

Dare I pasting that URL into another browser and change the range ? Like changing the range from A1:C300 to A1:D300 ?

Suprise suprise .. that worked ! I could perfectly see the content of the other cells.

Apart from pointing to the Google API the popup doesn't really mention that publishing only a range won't restrict the actual viewing off the other data.

I can imagine some less technical savvy people to expect the rest of their data is secure... Well, it obviously it's not !
Not sure if Google does this on purppose, or by accident.

If it stops working next week it was by accident :)

On the death of a monopolist

So it seems MySQL got on the radar of the monopolist, but the quotes that came from that event are more interesting .

Over at Oscon2008 Oscon people started realizing that the old monopolist definitely isn't the one to be afraid of.. there's new ones out there..

I already got quoted in a local magazine on the fact that new startups are more looking to Google than to redmond, but it also seems that Apple is the new kid in town to envy.

However, when looking at the Linux desktop I think we shouldn't be trying to imitate anybody .. we should be trying to head the pack, just as we have already done with Vitualization and other technologies.
