Kris Buytaert

Summary

Kris Buytaert is a long time Linux and Open Source Consultant doing Linux and Open Source projects in Belgium , Europe and the rest of the universe. He is currently working for Inuits

Kris is the Co-Author of Virtualization with Xen ,used to be the maintainer of the openMosix HOWTO and author of different technical publications. He is a frequent speaker at different international conferences.

He spends most of his time working on Linux Clustering (both High Availability, Scalability and HPC), Virtualisation and Large Infrastructure Management projects hence trying to build infrastructures that can survive the 10th floor test, better known today as the cloud.

Some Consultancy Projects

This is far from an exhaustive list, it however shows a variety of typical projects we work on

Large Scale Installations	Kris helped designing, implemented and deployed the servers responsible for the management and monitoring for a Telco Environment. This involved designing a system to install and maintain a large amount of servers . Kris is also responsible for the security and the redundancy of these higly critical environments. The environment consists of multiple JBoss ,MySQL and Xen Clusters.
Open Source Projects	As an opensource developer I am active within different Open Source projects, e.g openCRM, openMosix, openQRM etc.
Security	Kris did the design and implementation of various security infrastructures. These consist of Firewalls , IDS , VPN solutions etc.
Infrastructure Architecture	As a consultant, Kris designed , implemented and supports the infrastructure for several clients. Next to the security tracks, Kris designs and implements migrations from NT environment to Linux, migrations of several business critical machines to an external datacenter, Notes on AS400 migrations to Linux, and a complete network management solutions. Kris was involved in the overall design of different new architectures, the implementation of the security tracks, and the general project managment.
Application Migration	In his role a an IT Intrasctructure Architect Kris was involve the migration different applications from a HP/UX to a Linux environment. Kris advised the customer on the changes that had to be made to both the Application and System level in order to have a stable environment. Together with the client he drafts a planning and a project roadmap for these kind of projects.
Multimedia	Design and Project managment for the development of the Final Scratch installation CD. Final Scratch is a Linux based product for the DJ industry. N2IT has demanded Stone-IT to develop an easy to use installation and upgrade procedure for their software. This included creating a Debian based Linux distribution that was tuned specifically for the application. Together with a 'no hands/brains needed' installation CD.
